Patrick Cheney

Assistant Director, Non-Varsity Bands

Patrick Cheney is an Assistant Band Director and Full Orchestra Assistant Director at Claudia Taylor Johnson High School, where he has worked since 2021. He is also on the Boston Crusaders Visual Staff, where he has worked since 2022. Prior to working at Johnson High School, Mr. Cheney was an Assistant Band Director at Canyon High School in New Braunfels, Texas.

Patrick Cheney attended Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas. While a senior at Cooper, he performed with Black Gold World Winter Guard in 2010. Mr. Cheney received his degree in Music Education from McMurry University and studied oboe performance under Susie Rockett. While at McMurry, Mr. Cheney won two concerto competitions.

In 2012, Mr. Cheney was a member of the Bluecoats Drum Corps. In 2017 and 2018, Mr. Cheney performed with Invictus World Winter Guard, under the direction of Tracy Wooton. He has been a member of the Invictus Board of Directors since.

Mr. Cheney student taught in Fredericksburg, Texas where he continued to teach as a Middle School Band Director and directed the High School Color Guard from 2015 – 2018. After working at Fredericksburg, Mr. Cheney served as an Assistant Band Director at Canyon High School in New Braunfels, Texas for three years. At Canyon, he worked with the Sub Non-Varsity Bands and directed the color guard program.

In his spare time, Mr. Cheney enjoys hanging out with his two dogs, Lincoln and Biggy, and being outdoors.
