The Sam Houston State University School of Music Carson Thomas Miller Emerging Young Composers Competition
“In honor of Carson Thomas ‘Tom’ Miller, this scholarship is set up to assist those wishing to pursue music. With the recent loss of this young man who has touched so many lives we are asking those interested to support this fund. Tom’s passion for music, both playing and composing, brought such joy. There is sadness in the loss of music that will not be written by our son. We hope that this scholarship can help others bring music to the world."

This annual contest seeks to recognize and reward promising young composers in Texas for exceptional work at the high school level. One 1st Prize winner will receive $300 and a recorded workshop, reading, or performance of the winning work by SHSU musicians. 1st, 2nd, and Honorable Mention(s) will receive a winner’s certificate, an SHSU campus tour, and a private lesson with an SHSU faculty composer. This contest is sponsored by Sam Houston State University’s School of Music and the friends and family of the competition’s second annual winner, Carson Thomas Miller.
