7 at CTJ Make Texas All-State Band

Claudia Taylor Johnson capped a fantastic weekend with seven members earning positions in the TMEA All-State Band, including three-time honoree Aaron Wallick and Lauren Siegel and John Nickels making the state’s top band for the second time each. Johnson seniors Audrey Payne (flute) and Bryce Freund (trumpet), sophomore Patrick Sanford (french horn), and freshman Eli Canales (tenor trombone) each made All-State Band for the first time.

A total of 19 CTJ band members qualified for All-Area, sending them to the weekend auditions at the University of Texas in Austin. CTJ may add an eighth member depending on the outcome of a taped audition. Since the school’s opening in 2008, Claudia Taylor Johnson has had 27 members make the TMEA All-State Band, gathering a total of 43 seats over that period. From NEISD, Johnson had the most All-State qualifiers, followed by Reagan (6), Churchill (4), and MacArthur and Madison (1 each).

CTJ All-State Band Members will rehearse and perform with the top band members from all over the state at the TMEA Convention February 9-11 at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center Lila Cockerell Theater.
