Carnegie Hall

In yet another grand and special moment in the band program's history, the Claudia Taylor Johnson Wind Ensemble participated in the National Youth Concert at Carnegie Hall, held March 14, 2016 in the Isaac Stern Auditorium.

The performance featured these pieces:

  • Galop, by Dmitri Shostakovich (arr. Hunsberger)

  • The Hounds of Spring, by Alfred Reed

  • An American Elegy, by Frank Ticheli

  • Summer Dances, by Brian Balmages

  • Lincolnshire Posy II. Harkstow Grange, by Percy Grainger

  • The Sinfonians, by Clifton Williams

Conductors were Jarrett Lipman, Alan Sharps, Jordan Stern, and Gino Cipriani. Trumpeter Richard Gonzalez, director of bands at Driscoll Middle School in San Antonio, served as guest artist for the performance, which was part of the band's spring break trip to New York City and Washington, D.C.

The National Youth Concert series is a collaboration between Director's Choice and Performing Arts Consultants designed to provide young performers an opportunity to perform in the premier performance call in the United States, and one of the world's finest performance venues.
